Try A SUP
A what? A SUP - or a Stand Up Paddleboard. SUP is one of the fastest growing watersports in the world, and you have a chance to experience it.
River Conditions Update as of 5.15
Due to high water levels on the James River, currently above 9 feet and expected to remain elevated through the weekend, Waterfront RVA will not be offering “Try a Kayak” or “Try a SUP” on the river during this year’s Dominion Energy Riverrock festival. Safety is our top priority, and these conditions make river-based activities unsafe at this time.
But there’s still plenty to do!
Visit Waterfront RVA at Riverrock to:
-
Learn about the James River and local paddling opportunities
-
Hop in a kayak or SUP on land and get familiar with the gear
-
Plan your next adventure on the water
-
Meet the team and ask us anything about paddling, safety, or the river
Still want to paddle?
Our “Try a Kayak” experience in the canal remains open and is a great way to get on the water safely.
Waterfront RVA will resume full river paddling once water levels drop below 6 feet.
In addition to the two competitions (SUP Cross and SUP Enduro) at the festival, we’re also offering free SUP demos for anyone interested in giving it a try. All SUP’s and paddles are provided by Appomattox River Company at the Canal and Waterfront RVA at the Tredegar Street Boat Ramp. Check in just below the vehicle access bridge to Brown’s Island or at the Boat Ramp. Volunteers will be on hand to teach you proper techniques.
You must sign a waiver and acquire a wristband before participating in any of our Adventure Zone activities. You can do this onsite at any of our zones.
