Join our no-drop women’s ride on Buttermilk Trail, the crown jewel of the James River Park System. Explore old-school MTB tech including rocks, roots, and drops in a supportive setting with two local experts. Phaedra Hise and Marlie Smith are certified skills instructors who will guide you to the fun parts, and stop to session what challenges you.

Event Details

Mountain Bike Group Ride is open to all skill levels, beginner and up. The group ride is free but registration is required and limited to 12 spots

Location

Cyclists will meet in the Dominion Flat Lot

Rules

  • Must be 10 years or older to participate
  • A helmet, water, and a modern mountain bike in good condition (no hybrids or commuters) are required

Demo Bikes

Blue Ridge Cyclery will offer a limited number of demo bikes to participants of the Women’s Mountain Bike Group Ride. During registration, there is an option to opt into a demo bike reservation. The deadline to reserve a demo bike is May 9.

Meet the Ride Leaders

Phaedra Hise

Phaedra Hise helps riders break out of plateaus by pinpointing skill gaps and building confidence on technical terrain. A lifelong cyclist with 15 years on trails and a background in road racing, she works with women, beginners, and riders who have speed but want more control. She’s a PMBIA Level 1 coach and wilderness first responder, coaching with Riverside Cycling in Richmond and Ninja Mountain Bike Performance nationwide.

Marlie Smith

Marlie Smith is the Founder and head coach of ALL IN MTB, helping riders build confidence and skill while bringing the trail to life! A  BICP Level II Certified Mountain Bike Coach with over 12 years of experience, she coaches riders of all levels – from foundational skills to advanced cornering, technical terrain, and jumping. As a NICA OTB101/201 Coach Trainer, she’s deeply invested in developing the next generation of riders and coaches. Marlie is known for her inclusive, encouraging style and her “Let’s Play Bikes!” energy – meeting riders where they are and using clear, progressive coaching to help them ride stronger, safer, and with even more fun on every ride!
