In conjunction with Governor Northam’s recently-issued statewide Stay At Home Order, Sports Backers and Venture Richmond are very disappointed to announce that the 2020 Dominion Energy Riverrock festival planned for May 15-17 at Brown’s Island and Historic Tredegar is cancelled. We are bummed that our community of athletes, musicians, adventurers, festival-goers, and volunteers won’t be gathering this year to celebrate and combine all of the things that make Richmond such a vibrant place to live, visit, and play. But, we are hopeful that this means our festival will rock even more in 2021!

“We know that Dominion Energy Riverrock is one of the most anticipated weekends in Richmond, so it’s incredibly disappointing that we and Sports Backers must cancel this year’s event, but there was really no other option for us,” said Lisa Sims, CEO of Venture Richmond. “We want to thank our sponsors and partners for their support and understanding, and we’re already planning another great event for 2021.”

“Dominion Energy Riverrock inspires active living and is a great celebration of all the outdoor adventure opportunities available in Richmond. Even though this year’s festival won’t take place, we still aim to encourage people to be active on their own in a responsible way and support a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Jon Lugbill, Executive Director of Sports Backers. “We recognize that the most important thing right now is to focus community resources towards ensuring public health.”

If you are currently a paid registrant for a 2020 Dominion Energy Riverrock sporting event, we’ve identified the following options for you:

1. Defer your registration to the 2021 event (to be held May 21-23, 2021)

We have waived all deferral fees so that you can  move your entry to next year’s event. The deadline to take advantage of this option is May 15 and you may do so by following these instructions:

Sign into your RunSignup account (www.runsignup.com) > Profile > Upcoming Events > Manage Registration > Defer Registration

2. Credit your event registration fee to another Sports Backers event

You may credit the cost of your Dominion Energy Riverrock entry fee to another Sports Backers event that takes place through May 23, 2021. Complete this form by May 15 to transfer your fee to another event.

3. Donate your event registration fee to the Event Charity

Consider donating your event fee to help maintain and enhance the James River Park System trails and riverfront. Your gift will support the hard work of the countless volunteers who dedicate their time to improving our nationally acclaimed trail system. Past Dominion Energy Riverrock donations have supported two important projects taking place in our Park System and around our Riverfront: rehabbing the Maymont ramp on the North Bank Trail by the James River Park System staff (completed in November 2019) and a universal access ramp at Huguenot Flatwater through the James River Outdoor Coalition’s efforts.

Complete this form by May 15 to support the James River Park System.

4. Get a refund of your event registration fee

You may receive a refund of your event entry fee and any registration add-ons that you may have purchased (RunSignup processing fees are not refundable). Complete this form by May 15 to request a refund.

On behalf of Sports Backers and Venture Richmond, thanks you for your continued support. We look forward to rockin’ on the riverfront with you at the nation’s premier outdoor sports and music festival in 2021!
